An Fun Alternative to Exchanging Gifts – Secret Santa
|
When you have a large extended family which gets together for Christmas we all know how expensive it gets to purchase gifts for everyone. When you have children you also have to factor in purchasing gifts for them to get the relatives. Thats when it starts to get expensive, and you are left with less money to be spend towards the actual festivities. This is where an alternative to exchanging gifts comes into play. The name of everyone in the entire extended family is put into a hat by one person and they are then drawn out one at a time. The first name will buy a gift for the second name, the second then for the third and so on – until the last name buys for the first name.
Rules around the gifts purchased can vary, some people like to put varying limits on them (between $10 – $100+), where as others may prefer to put a theme on the gifts purchased. There is also the option of doing gag like gifts for everyone, which adds a bit more fun to the Christmas festivities.
You can even purchase and exchange gifts for your closest family the normal way, and bring this game in for the full extended family. Whatever gift giving system you decide to implement, just remember that Christmas is not all about the gifts and that it is the thought that counts.

This is a great money saver when it comes to my large extended family. I still exchange gifts the old fashioned way with my closer relatives though.
