Five Tips to Keep Kids Entertained During the Christmas Period
|
When Christmas time rolls around each year the children are out of school and anticipating Santa’s return, keeping them entertained over this period however can sometimes be a challenge. In this article we will look at five tips for keeping kids entertained during the Christmas period. Tip One – Baking: Baking is a great activity for children, although it will require supervision it’s a great method for getting them interested in cooking, and teaches them to follow instructions (the recipe). Ideas for Christmas themed baking includes simple methods such as decorating cupcakes, to more challenging such as baking cookies and ultimately making their own gingerbread houses.
Tip Two – Making Decorations: Most kids love doing activities which really involve them and their hands. Making decorations out of items such as clay, pipe cleaners (colored), craft paper, old christmas cards and even paints is a really fun activity that can be repeated and does not require constant supervision.
Tip Three – Writing Letters to Santa: Getting the children to write a letter to Santa is usually a task which can take up to one afternoons work. By getting them to write the letter themselves they are able to work on their literacy skills, along with their artistic sides when you get them to decorate the letter or draw Santa a picture.
Tip Four – Making Christmas Cards: This activity is a great one for keeping the kids entertained for many hours. By giving the children various craft items (paper, glitter, old Christmas cards, pencils, crayons, etc.) you ask them to create Christmas cards for various family members. It’s a really good way to get them into the spirit for Christmas and family members really do love to receive the home made cards from the kids.
Tip Five – Decorating the House: This is an activity in which you would prefer to supervise. When it comes time to decorate the house you should get out the decorations and help the children to put them all up. With gentle recommendations when you feel an item is put up wrong, and help when height is an issue you can really have a fun time with the kids and they will too.
No matter what you decide to do with the children this Christmas, remember to keep it in the spirit of things and to have fun.
